Nowadays, I'd suggest going 16GB for most peeps. If you're buying a prebuilt and upgrading it from 12GB to 16GB is going to cost you an arm and leg consider just buying RAM separately and installing yourself. Almost impossible to fuck up and takes literally 30 seconds to do. Edit:Realized you're talking laptop.

first pull its dimm to see if it will boot without it and has ram on the mobo. if it only has the 4g dimm and none on the mobo, then get a 16g ddr4 so-dimm for 16g of ram. if it has 4g on the mobo you should be able to add a 16g ddr4 sd-dimm (for 20g total) or add an 8g ddr4 so-dimm (for 12g total) Yes, it has 4 GB on mobo. So if i add a 16GB
Upgrading the CPU in these laptops is not possible, so my recommendation is to stick to 8 GB RAM total, maybe 12 GB tops if your workload is RAM-heavy. The next reasonable upgrade would be to replace the laptop. IMO you can't squeeze more out of this one by going for 16 GB. @gronostaj That might not be good advise.

Can I add one 16gb RAM to pair with the existing 8gb RAM to make it 24gb RAM if there's m – Learn about HP - Victus 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i5-12450H - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 - 512GB SSD - Mica Silver with 2 Answers – Best Buy

He mistaken between using different capacity RAM to a different memeory speed RAM. Mixing different types of ram can cause issues sometimes, it’s a coinflip. Using different speed(Mhz) would make the sticks both run at the lower speed RAM stick, meaning combining a 2666Mhz with any stick that has more than 2666(3200, 3600 and so on) would

even buying the same make and model does not guarntee RAM sticks from different boxes will work together. First thing first though is pull out your new RAM and make sure the old stuff still work correctly. Once that is confirmed take out your old RAM and put in the new RAM to confirm it works by itself.

Mango-is-Mango. • 1 yr. ago. Yes. If you use more than 16gb regularly then it will be a benefit. If you’re always below 16gb then it’s probably a detriment. It only supports dual channel but you can have two sticks per channel. You’d want each channel to have an 8 and a 16 so I’d do 8/16/8/16. 10K.
Unplug the power cable. This includes any cables and accessories plugged into the computer. 4. Hold the power button for 5 seconds. This discharges any residual electricity still in the system. 5. Open the case. For instructions about opening your specific system, consult its owner's manual.
