The 24-105 may work on portraits ( due to being up close) but there have been mixed reviews about using EF lenses on crop bodies. As someone said the 85mm range would be best for portraits on a crop. Good Excellent optical performance at every focal length and distance. I wasn't able to make an unsharp shot. Excellent Image Stabilization: I got four real stops of improvement at 105mm. Unusually accurate, fast and consistent autofocus. Bad Cramped zoom ring, especially at the wide end. Lots of distortion (easily fixed with DxO)
Canon knows this and make its entry level zoom lenses with that principle in mind. Attaching the RF 24-105 STM to your canera won't allow you to turn off distortion correction, because at 24mm it doesn't cover the whole sensor.
